Memorial Bench Program

What is the Memorial Bench Program?

The Memorial Bench Program allows friends and family to honor the memory of a loved one with a park bench in one of Prior Lake’s beautiful parks.
Dedicating a park bench provides a lasting remembrance in honor of a loved one and enhances the meaning of a bench for park visitors. The gift is also a valuable contribution to the community’s park system. Memorial Benches

People of all ages visit Prior Lake’s system of trails, athletic fields, facilities, and playgrounds every day, and the city parks are host to numerous events, wedding receptions and other community gatherings. Your generous gift will be recognized and appreciated by visitors for decades to come.

Can I choose the location?

Yes!  The City has designated areas where benches can be installed within our parks and trails system.  View the Memorial Bench Map to see which benches are available (indicated by red dots on the map).  Please note the desired bench number as it will be needed on the application form.

How does the program work?

The City of Prior Lake will provide a concrete bench pad and secure the six-foot bench to the pad. The City will maintain the bench for a minimum of 10 years. If current contact information is available, the donor may be given the opportunity to renew the memorial. The engraved plaque is attached to the bench’s backrest. The 4”x6” bronze plaque is limited to 6 lines with up to 30 characters per line.  Sample plaques can be viewed on the Memorial Bench Map - click any blue dot and open the photo attachment in the pop-up box.

What is the cost?

The total cost is $2,300 ($2,000 for the bench and $300 for the bronze plaque).

If the bench is requested in a new location, there is an additional fee of $550 for a concrete pad to be installed.
