Lakefront Park Master Plan Approved!

The development of a master plan for Lakefront Park was kicked-off in the summer of 2021.  With the guidance and support of an advisory committee, collaboration with consultants, and most importantly, valuable input from the community, a final master plan for Lakefront Park was adopted by the City Council at the January 18, 2023 meeting.

Overview & Background

Lakefront Park is home to many community events, activities, and recreational opportunities due to its size and proximity to downtown Prior Lake and Lower Prior Lake. Approximately 30 years old, the park has not received any major investments since the 1990’s when the original master plan for the park was completed. Because of this, an updated master plan document has been completed to develop a community vision for the future of Lakefront Park and guide for future investments and improvements within the park.

The master plan development process included:

  • Guidance and direction from an 18-member advisory committee. The committee members represented a wide range of community perspectives.
  • Input from stakeholder groups.
  • Community input and public engagement through several “pop-up” meetings at community events, two rounds of online engagement, and a public open house.
  • City Council progress reviews.

This master plan is meant to be used as a guide for future improvements in the park over the next 10 to 20 years. This guide also identifies costs and potential phasing of improvements. Potential funding sources are also identified.
